audio problem 2nd posting

Hello,
This is my 2nd posting concerning an audio problem,
hoping someone out there can help. I am an older adult
that shares a computer with other family members. When
my son goes into a chat room he has problems with the
audio. There's an echo, and it sounds like he is in a
tunnel. We don't know why this is happening, and don't
know how to fix it. Can anyone out there please tell how
to resolve this problem, its driving us crazy. We would
greatly appreciate your help in this matter. Sandy
 
This is a Windows XP newsgroup. For audio problems check with whoever it is
that made your motherboard, for built in audio, or your PCI audio card
manufacturer.

Many sound cards come with their own mixers (a kind of fancy volume
controls program). In those mixers you can select special sound effects
such as an echo. An example of this would be some of the Creative sound
cards.

The extra mixer usually has a shortcut somewhere in the start menu. Look
around to see if you can find one. Open it and check its settings to see if
"echo" or "reverberation" has been selected. Uncheck the option and close
the program.

Could be feedback. Try positioning the microphone a little further from
your speakers and/or go into Control Panel> Sound and Audio Devices to
adjust the volume levels.
 
The feed back could easily be at the other end (chat room), of course!
(Their microphone picks up your voice on their speakers,,,,)
