This can be a little tricky. It is only a little difficult because
PowerPoint is designed as presentation software, not as an audio sampler.
But, even so, that does not mean it can not be done. The version of
PowerPoint you are using will vary the method slightly, but this is the
basic framework.
Try setting up your 'sound jukebox' presentation like this.
Slide 1 - Main slide
This slide will have all the links to the songs listed and hyperlinked.
Remove the 'advance on click' option (from the slide transitions
pane/dialog)
Add an object labeled END and hyperlink it to the end of the show
Slide 2 - Blank slide with an auto transition of 00:00 seconds
This slide is required to 'reset' the audio to the beginning for a
possible second playing. When linking to a song, you will actually link to
this blank slide in front of the song.
Slide 3 - Song slide
Insert the first song on this slide. Set it to auto play when asked.
PowerPoint should default the sound to play for just this slide. You can
check on it by looking at the sound object's settings. How to do this
varies from PowerPoint version to PowerPoint version.
Remove the 'advance on click' option from the slide transition.
Add an object like a box that says 'Click here to return to main
selection screen' and hyperlink it back to slide 1.
Slides 4-5
Copy slides 2 and 3 for each song on slide 1.
Delete the sound from the new slides and insert the next one.
Hyperlink the reference (on slide 1) to the blank slide before the
actual sound slide.
The presentations flow will be like this. The presentation starts and the
viewer selects one of the listed songs/sounds/noises. The presentation
links to the slide before the sound's slide and advances immediately into
the sound slide. The sound file plays until it ends, or until the user
clicks the Return object. Whenever the user clicks this object, he/she is
returned to the main menu slide (slide 1).
This sounds like it is complicated, I assure you it is not. It will allow
for the songs to be cut off whenever the go back object is clicked. It will
not allow more than one sound file to play at a time. It will also allow
you to add lyrics, pictures of the artist, shameless plugs for other
presentations, etc. to the jukebox whenever a sound is playing. ** Always
obey copyright laws, get permission before using pictures, lyrics, or sounds
