Our club has monthly meetings and the presentation is typically done with
Powerpoint. We are interested in recording the speaker to create a file
which has all the presenter's slides and the audio narration. Then, we
would post the complete file to our website so people unable to attend to
can hear/see the presentation. What might be a good way to do this? We
want to avoid recording only the audio and synching it up to the slides.

As long as the speaker is not talking to individual slides, recording the
narration as one file is just fine. If they are talking to individual slides
then it would be next to impossible to sync voice and picture, as each computer
runs at different speeds. That being said how to add the sounds to your web page
for different versions of PowerPoint can be found here

This sounds like it might be something that Producer may be excellent for.
Producer is a PowerPoint add-in that expands what you are able to do.

Would you be opposed to adding a video of the speaker, and showing the
slides and a video narration?

Depending on what version of PowerPoint he is using. Producer may not be an
option.

I am using Powerpoint 2000 and it looks like Producer necessitates 2002 or
above. I can always upgrade but then the question becomes, "do all the
viewers of the presentation require Powerpoint 2002 or greater?"

No, as your using 2000 the 97 viewer is quite adequate. If you upgrade to the
latest version of PowerPoint. You can always create presentations that will work
in older versions by turning off some of the special effects.
