Hello.

I had to put a new mobo in my Dimension 4400. That
particular item was unavailable so I had to buy a 4500
mobo (works in the 4400).

Everything is going well, but there is no sound. It
says "no audio device" found. Isn't that built into the
motherboard? How do I make this work without buying a
separate sound card?

Thanks,
Renee

Turn on (or restart) your computer.

When the blue DELLT logo appears, press "DEL".

If you wait too long and the operating system begins to load into memory,
let the computer complete the load operation. Then shut down the computer
and try again.

From the Main Screen, use the right arrow key to navigate to the Advanced
Screen.

Use the down arrow key to select Peripheral Configuration and press the
Enter key to display the Peripheral Configuration Submenu.

Select Onboard Audio Device and set to enabled

I've done the BIOS thing, it was already enabled.

One issue might be the switch from 4400 to 4500 mobo.
I've seen some references to difficulty with the on-board
audio on the 4500. I'm trying to find/download a driver
now...device manager had nothing in it for audio.

The motherboard must have audio built in. Not all motherboards have this.

If your motherboard has audio built in, you'll need to install the drivers.
If your motherboard doesn't have audio built in, you'll need a sound card.

All new motherboards come with a driver CD for drivers for onboard
components such as CPU, IDE and builtin sound and graphics chips.
Install drivers from there!
