G'day to all.

I have a Nvidia audio chip set. I've installed all the appropriate drivers
(Driver Manager reports evrything is fine - in other words no Red Xess, Question
Marks or Exclamation Marks).

BUT, I have no sound! I've checked with different speakers, head sets and the
like. Interestingly enuff, when in Control Panel, all my options are grayed out
(i.e. disabled).

I've talked with Nvidia and we've gone thru lots of things (even replaced Nvidia
Graphics card, tried different drivers). Nada. I then spent about 2 hours with
HP (it's a Pavillian 522C) - still NADA.

Any Ideas?

OH BTW: Windows XP Home, Latest SP etc. No viruses, Trojans or related Spyware.
Hmmm

Thanks Wes, no go. I did (before using this REG fix) check the Windows audio
subsystem and it was running. I restarted etc., but still no go.

Any others???

Thanks..

Problem was an MS Update for an NVidia driver (how trustworthy is that?). I
rolled the driver back, reinstalled the "Real Good" audio driver and VOLIA!

Cheers.

Thanks for posting back.

You probably know this now, but never use a Microsoft hardware driver. Get
the drivers from whatever company website.

Hey Wesley, I agree. For some reason, Auto Updates was turned on??? I NEVER,
EVER rely on MS drivers or auto updates.

Anyway, all appears to be good to go...

Hi,

I have trouble with my sound setup as well.

My device manager also states the sound device as being healthy. Although
looking into the details of the sound device you find more information about
sound devices, MIDI and Mixer. Those "subdevices" have a status of "driver
activated but not started" (please keep in mind that I use a German version,
i.e. can't gurantee for exact wording).

So far I have de-/re-installed different driver versions but no luck.

Does anybody have an idea what this status "driver activated, but no
started" means. (error logs, etc. have no information at all).

Ciao
Fred
