vers 11.3.5 2004 Powerpoint running on a Mac

I want to loop 7 slides indefinitely (while a class assembles) until
a button is pressed and then jump to the other 20 in the show. I can
do this using and action button to jump to 'custom show' and it works
fine.....However I want music to play in a continuous loop while the 7
slides are looping. Then it stops when the button is pressed. I can
set the music across 7 slides but when the show loops back to 1 the
music stops...whatever I do...... Anyone an idea/ fix?

You may want to ask the same question in the Mac PowerPoint NG. You might try having two presentations the one with the seven slides loops until you click your mouse which then seamlessly jumps to your second presentation.

Thanks for that idea but....I still have the problem of the music
stopping when the slides loop back to the beginning. Altho I have set
the music to run idnefinitely it aslways stops when slide 1 appears
for the second time.....

You might want to make your 7 slide presentation into an 8 slide presentation and put the music on the first slide, then loop through the other seven until your ready to start your main presentation.

hmm

good idea!

How do I get it to loop back to slide 2 and not 1? When I look at the
option and give (say) slids 2-7 it STARTS from 2 and ignores 1?

This was just posted by Shawn Toh (tohlz) another PPT MVP answering a somewhat similar question. Like I said before I don't know how this works on the Mac you might want to ask in the Mac newsgroup.

You can make use of Custom Show to loop through a set of selected slides.

First, click Slide Show > Custom Shows.
Create a new custom show and add the slides you want to loop into the custom
show.
Once you are done, close custom show.
Click Slide Show > Set Up Show.
Under Show options, put a checkmark to "Loop continuously until 'Esc'".
Click Ok.
Right click on the thumbnail of the slides that have been added into custom
show, select Hide Slide.

Now, add a dummy slide just before the slides.
Create an action button on the dummy slide and have the action button
hyperlinks to the Custom Show. This will allow you to enter the custom show
once you click on the action button.
Put a checkmark to "Show and return" if you want to return to the dummy
slide.

When viewing the presentation, clicking the action button on the dummy slide
will bring you to the custom show. Press Esc key to go back to the dummy
slide.
