Audio doesn't work in DVD played in Vista

Here's the situation. With Compaq laptop with Vista, sounds play in the
Sounds dialog box in Control panel. Sounds play with videos played on the
Web. Sounds play with music files in the Library in Windows Media Player.
But when I run a DVD, I get the video, but no sound. The sound card in the
device manager is there and seems to be ok.

Any ideas?

Looks like you are missing the proper audio decoder.
My guess is that it is Dolby AC3 audio.
Try installing ffdshow (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDShow.htm).
Or using the standalone (also freeware) "Media Player
Classic".(http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Media_Player_Classic.htm)
