folks, when i try to adjust the volume in my PC(WINXP) i
see the following error "there are no active mixer devices
available..." any fix would be greatly appreciated.

Un-install your soundcard's software, and then in the device manager the
soundcard itself. Reboot.

Let XP 'recognise' your soundcard then re-install the drivers - download the
latest XP specific ones from the manufacturer's website if necessary.
