Audacity on 98SE

I downloaded and installed the latest version of Audacity (1.2.3 I
think) but each time I tried to run it it caused my computer to crash.
I downloaded version 1.0.0 and it runs fine. I'm running 98SE with 1
gig of memory and plenty of disk space.

Any ideas why 1.2.3 won't run and what I might do to get it to run?
Are the differences between it and 1.0.0 not significant enough to
worry about using it?

Thanks for any help.

It is off-topic, since you are running 1gb RAM in a Win 98 machine,
did you change the vcache setting?

If no, use notepad to open "System.ini" and....

In the [VCache] section of system.ini, include:
MaxFileCache=524288

Would you please explain why 'it is off-topic'? I see many questions
about freeware products in this newsgroup, so I do not see your point.
And, yes, I have changed the MaxFileCache setting, as soon as I
upgraded the memory.

The audacity web site has no answers for my question.

If I may, another question: If I have one track in a project and export
the project, I get a WAV file of about 200 megs. If I export just the
selected track (remember, only one track in this project), I get a WAV
file of around 75 megs. What is causing this difference in file sizes?

Just a small message to tell you that I'm using Audacity 1.2.3 on
win98se (only 160MB of memory) and I haven't any problem.
I know that it's not the solution of your problem but confirm that
v1.2.3 may work fine on 98SE.

Forgot to put the colon "It is off-topic : since you are running ...".
