This unit, according to the merchant, will arrive on Monady, September 29,
therefore, now is the time to address concerns:

1. Printer Heads (4 @ $40.00 each): what can be done to MAINTAIN these?

2. Ink Cartridges: will remanufactured ones be available . . . after the
warranty expires? [This answer should be based on observation and past
experience.]

3. Photo Cartridge: odd, that a unit with a photo card reader states
nothing about using a . . photo cartridge.

4. Paper Weight: "specifications and warranty" does NOT disclose minimum
and maximum paper weight's.

5. MISUSE/NEGLECT: Unless a signature is required, faxes will be
received/sent from/to the hard drive- not printed. Most print jobs will be
sent to a deskjet 940c, which I can use Staples Cartridges in.
70%-940c/30%-d145. Will this 'light use' cause problems?

WHY did I order this unit? Scanning and faxing.

The D145 is outside my area of expertise, but I will give you some opinions.
This unit, according to the merchant, will arrive on Monday, September 29,
therefore, now is the time to address concerns:
1. Printer Heads (4 @ $40.00 each): what can be done to MAINTAIN these?

Use the printer according to its recommendations, do not store or operate in
high temperatures or other extreme environments.
2. Ink Cartridges: will remanufactured ones be available

I have absolutely no way of knowing what a third party may or may not do. Here
is HP's position:
http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/document.jhtml?lc=en&docName=bpa00113
3. Photo Cartridge: odd, that a unit with a photo card reader states
nothing about using a . . photo cartridge.

I do not see a question here, but the D145 is a 4 ink printer. There is no
option for a photo cartridge.
4. Paper Weight: "specifications and warranty" does NOT disclose
minimum and maximum paper weight's.

The paper specifications are in the detailed spec's available at:
http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/docume...64992&docName=bpu06001&cat=prodinfo#P345_6463

It allows 16-24 lb plain paper, 110lb card stock up to 5x8" and 9lb for
specialty paper.
5. MISUSE/NEGLECT: Unless a signature is required, faxes will be
received/sent from/to the hard drive- not printed. Most print jobs will
be sent to a DeskJet 940c, which I can use Staples Cartridges in.
70%-940c/30%-d145. Will this 'light use' cause problems?

Yes, I would expect so. While it may not cause problems directly, you are
paying a premium for a system that is designed for heavy usage and then running
it at a low duty cycle. The printheads will have to be replaced in a few years
(5 years?) even if you do not use it much. You might be happier with the
Officejet 6110 which has some similar features but has printheads integrated
with the ink cartridge. The 6110 supports an optional photo cartridge and
uses the #56, 57 and 58 cartridges.
WHY did I order this unit? Scanning and faxing.

You might take a look at the Officejet 6110 at:

which may better meet your needs, especially considering your low usage.
