I've noticed a number of posts from folks who are not able to DL from
Simtel lately. I ran into this problem trying to DL the latest Total
Uninstall. Tried a bunch of mirrors but nothing happened after I
clicked on the DL button. Discovered that if I set Proxomitron to
"Bypass", the DL proceeded normally. I don't know enough about Proxo's
filters to understand why this is happening, but it seems that Simtel
will not redirect to the file download until after their ad loads, and
Proxo is preventing this from happening.

One trick, if you have the time and patience, is to first disable a
single block of active filters ( ie. the web page filters etc ).
Try the site, if it works you know the problem lies in that batch of
filters - if not, switch them on again and disable the next block.

Having found the right block, click on the appropriate edit button and
review the list of filters.
Some folk might prefer to switch them off individually from the top
down, or perhaps switch of a group of four or five at a time - then
try the site.

If you're a little bit savvy about these things you can often make an
educated guess at which filter is blocking the site.
Don't forget the Fake Cookie function, which often frees up a stuck
site.

Having found the appropriate filter you can either disable it or delve
into the help files and tweak the script.

The log window is very handy, but as you've found - it's not exactly
plain English.

Don't forget the Bypass list. Find your site, right click on the Proxo
task bar icon, and select 'add to blockfile'. Select bypass and add
the url. It's kind of crude, but quick and easy.

One useful function is to knock up a 'Not' filter - I find that
certain filters routinely cause problems with sites where I need all
the functionality, so I modify the filter to refer it to a 'Not list',
where I can place URLs that I don't want that specific filter to work
on.

Probably a slightly cack-handed way of doing things, but that's the
beauty of Proxo...you can approach it from many different angles to
achieve the same results.

What really irks is when a regularly visited site changes the format
of the page, and none of the carefully crafted 'workaround' filters
apply any more!

Regards,
