i have downloaded one of linux os distribrutions called slackware. but only thing i have problem with is
installing it on my laptop and running the software unfortunelty. so could anybody with slackware knowlegde please guide me here.

The reason i chose this os distribution is because i have old machine it's Tosiba portege with Processor: Intel Pentium II 366 MHz etc.

full specification of my laptop: http://www.ciao.co.uk/Toshiba_Portege_7020CT__5376014#productdetail

would this distrubutionns the right one for my laptop? as i found out that you can run this slacware os on older machines.

help me out here pls . thanks in advance for spending your time helping me cheers guys. ;)

Uh... 64 MB RAM? While it CAN be done, that machine won't be much of a rocket. I have installed Zenwalk (a Slackware derivative geared towards ahem... humble hardware) on a Compaq lappy with specs similar to your Toshiba -- except that I had whopping 96 MB of RAM.

Honestly?

1. Try Slackware (or any other Linux distribution) on a faster computer. Failing that...

2. Get more RAM. Each little bit helps. Failing that...

3. Use a "mini distribution" (Zenwalk, Puppy, Damn Small Linux, SliTaz - http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20080331#feature - etc.) Failing that...

4. Install Slackware with Xfce - NOT KDE - desktop environment.

thanks for your advice urmas. i will let u know whether it works on the mini distributions you suggested.

SliTaz (in VirtualBox), a couple of screenshots:

The size of the .iso image is 24.8 MB... what's the opposite of "bloat"?
