Attendance Tracking

Here's my question and hopefully someone can help me or at least point me in
the right diretion.

I need to create an attendance tracking database which I know is pretty
simple but each student is issued a school ID card with a # on it and a
barcode below that. We have a barcode scanner from wasp that you just plug
into a usb port and it works, but I am not sure how to set it up so when we
scan the barcode which is their student ID # and it would automatically log
that student in as being in attendance for that day. I also need to make
sure each day is is done in a seperate report to keep track of.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
I have a USB barcode scanner which is probably similar to yours in function.
I just click the focus to a textbox and read the barcode, then hit the Enter
Key. You can probably try it out on a blank spreadsheet.

You only need 1 report, but you group the data on each date.

At the corporate level, attendance tracking has some other aspects that
are not apparent. Suppose, God forbid, that a building has a
catastrophic accident. Without any access to any computers in the
building, would you be able to tell rescue workers the names of the
people visiting the building? Would you be able to tell them the names
of all the employees who were currently clocked in? Would you be able
to recover your databases if all the computers and disks in the building
are destroyed? The safety manager where I work pointed out those things
to me. I don't have all those things in place yet, but I hope to have
better answers to those questions in the future.
