attempts to retreive data from an old exchange server

I recently needed to delete the old e-mail account used
by outlook and create a fresh account. I used the
provided Wizard and all went well.

Outlook is now trying to retreive information from the
excahnge server that was associated to the old e-mail
account. Since connecting to that server is no longer
possible, the connection attempt takes forever and must
be manually canceled each time. Not fun.

Is there a setting somewhere that the Wizard missed? I
already deleted the in-box rules, send/receive groups and
any account in Outlook Express.

Did you recreate your mail profile in Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show
Profiles?

Yes. The confusing part is that Oulook is trying to
request data from an excahnge server that was associated
to an e-mail that has been deleted. Where would that old
exchange server be stored. I can't see it anywhere in
any UI I have access to.

Thanks!

I found it in the weirdest places. A user of mine had the same symptons for
a certain contact of him but had no problem with other contacts. Cause; he
had entered birthday information for the contact which created a calendar
item and a shortcut for that calendar item in the contacts properties. Of
course that shortcut still pointed to the old Exchange server. Deleting the
link and re-entering the birthday information cleared the problem.

See if this also applies to you. Note that the Journal (when enabled) holds
loads of links to items as well. Clearing the Journal could resolve your
problem as well. Exmerge the mailbox first from within Exchange so you can
easily import it back in whne you deleted to much (a lot faster than
restoring from back-up tape).
