hey guys, I went to my cousin's house last night and he was talking to
this girl that wanted him to join a site for adult purposes, he
declined and the girl started acting all stupid and calling him names,
my cousin said a few bad things and it turned out the "girl" on the
other end was a "hacker" from Europe. Well, my cousin didn't believe
him and told the girl to prove it, all of a sudden, we started getting
a whole bunch of message windows with gibberish, it must have been at
least 30 windows popping up left and right. We CTRL+ALT+DEL the machine
and Yahoo! Messenger had gone from the usual 7000K of memory usage to
over 60000K! All those windows ultimately slowed the computer down and
it froze, what the heck was that about?

Greetings,

I'm not up on the latest Yahoo Messenger exploits but certainly all instant messaging clients
and similar software are vulnerable to people scripting various ways of annoying people by
abusing the way windows come up.

It's hard to say from your description what happened, of course scanning your computer for
viruses, spyware and having the Windows firewall on would probably be beneficial. However,
if they're just abusing the way Yahoo Messenger works, then there's probably not a lot you
can do about it.

I actually do keep Yahoo signed in on a separate PC for testing purposes and constantly get
random IMs from so-called "girls" wanting to talk their "services". I just close them and
ignore.
