Attachments to Emails

Everytime I try to attach anything to my email, especially cartoon icons, it
blocks out the image, and shows it with an extension " .gif ", and I can't
recover the origianl item.

When using another email address as the "receiver", the image doesn't appear
after the "security check".

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.
