I cannot receive attachments in word on my Vista
Winows mail. They simply don't appear.
(I know they are attached to the original message, because I get them on my
old desktop, in Outlook with Windows XP, but they don't show up at all on my
laptop with Vista.) I would welcome any suggestions.

Enable attachments in Windows Mail:
Tools > Options > Security, uncheck "Do not allow attachments..."

Your antivirus program may be blocking access to the attachments.
If you are using either McAfee or Norton Antivirus, they are known to be
very hostile to Windows Mail. Uninstall the antivirus program, reboot
and try Windows Mail again. Once you get your email working properly,
download and install a less troublesome antivirus program such as the
free Avast. Whichever antivirus program you keep, be sure to
disable its email scanning option.

If the mail was sent from Outlook using Outlook's RTF format then Windows
Mail will never find the attachment. Windows Mail does not understand
Outlook's RTF format. Ask the Outlook user to please use Plain Text,
especially when sending attachments.
