Perhaps this isn't a Outlook issue per se, but maybe you can shed some light
on this. I don't know what changed but when I now receive attachments in
Outlook 2002, I see a grayed out box where the phrase 'Always ask when
opening this type of file' is. How can I change that back?

This isn't a big deal, I was just wondering how I could change this back. I
really have spent time looking to see where this could be chnaged but no
luck. Thanks, Dave Horne

In fact, it's not an Outlook issue, but it has been addresses many times in
this or other Outlook newsgroups. Google Groups is your friend. Here's an
example:

Brian, I appreciate your help but what you suggested was not doable in
Vista.

I went to Control Panel \ Folder Options and looked at every conceivable
option and could not find what what you suggested in that link.

I am still open to siggestions. If I happen to stumble upon one I will
report back and mention it.

Had you mentioned you were using Vista at the outset, I would probably not
have responded, not having Vista for myself with which to look.

hi there
I read your issue
seems to be file association is missing
try to click on attachment and it will give you option to save.save
attachment to desktop and then right click on the attachment and choose teh
option open with choose program if you know the type of attachment choose
that progarm and check teh check box at the bottom always use this progarm
ex .doc file oepns with word, .xls oepns with excel.ppt opesn with power
point and so on if you dont have any office applications on your system do
not worry go to microsoft.com and download the differnt viewers liek word
viewer , power point viewer and so on they are free

I think it is possible I am being missunderstood.

The issue is this - with Outlook 2002 (under Vista Home Premium), when I
receive an attachment and I click on that attachment, I receive a message to
either Save or Open the file in question. There is also a grayed out box
where I _could_ have clicked on the mssage )if it were not grayed out),
Always ask when opening this type of file'.

This has nothing per se to do with a *.doc file, I just want to have that
grayed out box not grayed out.

And, as I said, that box has always been controlled by WIndows in the Folder
Options. What I described was for Windows XP. While I don't know how to
find it in Vista, surely there must be an equivalent area.
