RE: Attachment - Virus?

I received a security patch from Microsoft. When I went to install it,
I got this message: "Norton AntiVirus removed the attachment:
q347298.exe. The attachment was infected with the W32.Gibe.B@mm
virus."

Could I have a copy of a virus-free patch, please?

Thank you,

Barry Karas

That is a well-known virustype nowadays. It fakes a patch from MS.
Microsoft n e v e r sends patches via email. So there is no patch to
send you. Instead run windowsupdate.

Worm.

I received a security patch from Microsoft.

Doubtful, as they don't send patches via e-mail.

When I went to install it,

Mistake! But how were you to know. It was pretty a convincing
con wasn't it?

Not really "infected" with a "virus", but rather it was actually
the worm's executable file itself attached ~ but let's not quibble.

Try the "windowsupdate" site provided by Microsoft

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

....and keep that anti-virus program up-to-date also ~ you'll
be needing it.
