Hi. When I get a GIF or JPEG attachment, if I choose to open it, Outlook
opens Macromedia Fireworks, when all I really want is to view the picture in
the Microsoft Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. I'm guessing I have to change
a registry key to make this happen - could someone point me in the right
direction?

Thanks.

No try right cliking attachment and choose open with and
choose program you want to use. You also can change
permant file association. In xp go to my computer, tools,
folder options; file type tab , choose extent and change
opens with info.

Well, here's the thing:

1. There is no "Open With..." option from within Outlook (I'm using 2003)
when you right-click on an attachment.
2. If I were to open a JPEG file in, say, My Documents, it would go to the
Picture and Fax Viewer, so I think this is specifically an association issue
within Outlook.

No it's not. Outlook starts the default program configured in Control
Panel-> Folder Options-> tab File Types. Change the default program to the
Picture and Fax Viewer
