Attaching shortcuts to files in Calendar Appointments

We are currently running Outlook 2003 and experimenting with using it as a
visual format for our construction schedule. Is it possible to attach a
shortcut to a file in a Calendar appointment, instead of a copy of the file
itself? We occasionally need to make changes to the master copies of each
file and need everyone who views the schedule to have the most recent data
availabe. Can this be done?

I attempted to attach the shortcut to an appointment in the Calendar, but
with no success. I created a document and a shortcut for that document in
the same folder. Then I opened up an appointment in the Calendar and
followed the File Attachment process to attach the shortcut to the
appointment. Once the file attachment process was complete, the name of the
attached file was the same as that of the original document. It was not
"Shortcut to..." And when I opened up that attached document, the changes
that I had made to the original master copy of the document were not shown.
Is there a setting that needs to be changed or a different process that needs
to be followed the make the shortcut attach.

Thank you.

You don't want to attach a link to the shortcut, just make it a
hyperlink to the file itself. Click Insert, File, navigate to the file
(not the shortcut), select it, click the Insert pulldown in the lower
right and select Insert as hyperlink.
