I am rather new to PowerPoint and put together two neat presentations complete with sound. WHen I tried to e mail them or copy them they come through without the sound. I found one article on here where it said to go into tools and options and change it to a high number under link sounds. I put in 2000. Is this high enough?? I still can't get the sound to come through

First, what type of sound files are you using? The setting for embedding
only applies to WAV files since they're the only ones that can be embedded.
If you're using WAV's, make the setting 50000 (4 zeros). If they aren't
WAV's, they're linked and must be sent along with the presentation with
instructions to the recipient to save them to a folder on the hard drive and
play the presentation from there.

One more quick question. How do you know if it is a wav file? I am not familiar with that. Sorry.

Audio files can have different formats, such as WAV, MP3, MID, etc. The
file extension should indicate whether it is a WAV file. For example
disney.wav would be a WAV file.

See Sonia's answer, but understand that by default, Windows will hide the file
extension from you. Bill thinks you're too stupid to deal with them, apparently.

You seem a lot smarter than that to me. Have a look here:

Do this before using PowerPoint seriously

Toward the bottom, there's a section about setting up Windows - it explains there how
to make sure you can see file extensions.

No, Mac/Apple thinks that way and MS has bought into it...

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]
[TOP ISSUE - Are you having difficulty opening presentations in PowerPoint
that you just created (you can save, but not open)? -
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=329820]

Hello,

As you have discovered, when you send your presentation only the
presentation file is sent (not any supporting linked content). Lots of
different presentation content is linked (instead of embedded) including:

* Movies - Always
* Sounds - Always if not *.WAV format
* Sounds - *.WAV files exceeding threshold specified in Tools -> Options
dialog.
* Pictures - If option to "Link" was chosen when inserting
* OLE Object - If option to "Link" was chosen when inserting

There are a variety of workarounds to make your presentations with linked
content more portable including:

* Whenever possible, don't use content that will be linked (only used
content that will be embedded such as *WAV files smaller than threshold set
at the time they were inserted), OR

* Prepare presentation for distribution using one of the following and then
combining the resulting files into a single distributable (winzip? pkzip?
stuffit? etc.):
* Pack and Go (PPT 2002 and earlier), OR
* Package for CD in PowerPoint 2003, OR

* Distributing presentation in MHTML format (single file web page which
includes supporting linked content)

Of course, If you (or anyone else reading this message) have suggestions
for how PowerPoint might better support sending presentations with
audio/video through e-e-mail, don't forget to send your suggestion (in YOUR
OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

It's VERY important that, for EACH wish, you describe in detail, WHY it is
important TO YOU that your product suggestion be implemented. A good wish
submssion includes WHAT scenario, work-flow, or end-result is blocked by
not having a specific feature, HOW MUCH time and effort ($$$) is spent
working around a specific limitation of the current product, etc. Remember
that Microsoft receives THOUSANDS of product suggestions every day and we
read each one but, in any given product development cycle, there are ONLY
sufficient resources to address the ones that are MOST IMPORTANT to our
customers so take the extra time to state your case as CLEARLY and
COMPLETELY as possible so that we can FEEL YOUR PAIN.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).

Me too.

Long time no see... you, you, you deserter. I thought you
left Win98 for XP and find you're hanging out in PP instead.
How are they treating you here?

<chuckle> Funny how you run into people in unexpected places on the 'Net,
isn't it? But I have to say that I don't ever remember hanging out in any
Windows groups, really; this one's always been home base for me. Maybe
there's another Echo who participates over there?

We have a great time here -- despite the bad fish puns!

Hmmm, sorry! That name is hard to forget... I was thinking
that you were one of the deserters who left Win98 for XP a
couple of years ago. Boy, was I wrong!

There must have been another Echo in an internal news group
a few years ago - I frequented the internal help ngs of
pipeline and mindspring for years. They were a great place
for know nothings to learn how to use a computer without
being ridiculed for asking "dumb" questions.

LOL! I even learned how to copy/cut and paste with their
help.

Missing the more innocent times of usenet...
