Attaching MouseMove to the Desktop, or Explorer?

I am looking to write an app like MouseClocker, to measure how far the
mouse moves. Obviously, I can use the MyBase.MouseMove event on the
main form. Unfortunately, this ceases to fire when the mouse moves
outside of the form.

How can I attach the MouseMove event on, say, the Desktop, or the
Explorer shell?
