Dear ,

One of our users is using Outlook 2000. When he tries to attach file from a
network drive which has 12,000 files with 441 mb, his PC will be frozen. It
may take him more than 10 minutes to display the folder.

The files on the network drive are all jpg files.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Rebecca,

What you are seeing is most likely due to latency in the Network and not a
function of Outlook performance per se. For a test, you can try to copy
the entire directory locally and there should not be a problem. Refreshing
12000 files over a network connection can be very slow.

You may want to change the drive from a mapped to UNC or vice versa
depending upon how the network drive is setup. Also, how fast of a
connection do they have with their network? Are they on 10 mb/ 100 etc.
This may also affect the performance in this area.

Alexander,

I agreed that it's the latency in the network as I had copied the entire
directory to his local drive and it's faster.
The connection is already 100mb.

The issue is that other users around the same area don't have this problem.
In addition, if he uses Outlook Express to attach files from the same
folder, it's faster too. Even he used Windows Explorer to access that
folder, it's faster.

I am at loss whether it's network issue or Outlook problem?
