atomatic Shut Down

hi,

I'm using windows 2000, if i connected to net using cable
net/external modem.. it is becoming slow and after some
time copy-paste is not working, again after some time
system is giving a message like "System will shut down in
60 sec, save your work..".

why this problem is comming for windows 2000, and what are
the alternatives for solving this problem..
