Ok I got round to buying the ATi All in wonder X800! And I've fitted it but nothing is happening. Its not recognising it or anything the manual says to search for my PCI express controller in device manager so I can update the driver, but no such option appears in device manager. When the card is plugged in my monitor doesnt work and plugging it into the new card doesn't work either. Im not sure what to do from here its obviously conflicting with the current card but I dont want to disable incase I have no screen whatsoever. Suggestions?

The current card is a nvidia 6150LE built in

Thanks

update the display drivers from the manufacturers website

When you plug your new graphics card in, it should override the onboard graphics card. So just to check, you've plugged it in (firmly) and connected your monitor cable to the new card, and nothing appears on your monitor at all? Even when you first turn it on?

Nope nothing at all. Like I said it seems to be that when the card is in it does override the onboard card as I have no display at all. The only other thing I can think of is that the card doesnt have a VGA(?) slot but has a connecter to connect one to one of the other ports on the card. But this should still work as all the connections are sufficient. It is definately plugged in right cos like I said, its noticing its there by not allowing the other card to display. I haven't had chance to update the display drivers but will do it later see if it makes a difference.

If you can't see anything when you first turn your PC on, then the drivers won't make a difference unfortunately as you aren't in Windows yet. It could be that the connector is causing a problem, I'm guessing its a DVI > VGA one? It might be worth trying a DVI monitor on it if you have access.

Was there an internal power connector to the card when you first fitted it?

im postive its onboard , unless he sodered one to the mobo :D

perhaps you havent set things up in bios correctly?

Alf, I'm trying to ascertain, in my sarky way, as to what MB we are dealing with.

;)

Yeah I meant onboard, I just worded it stupidly. Ok....I have a VGA to VGA cable that came with the computer and I have connected this to not the DVI slot but to an adapter that fits in another slot on the back of the card, the slot is small and the adapter has a large metal end to it I can only find it described as the All-In-Wonder X800 PCI express card. Im hoping that if I just buy a VGA to DVI cable I will be fine...perhaps?

Theres a lever of sorts on the end of the AGP (PCI-E?) slot- you have to push ( or pull) the tab to release the card

I sincerely hope I have not put my PCI card in the AGP slot. Is that possible?
LoL ... I have seen some do some silly things, but you do have a PCI-E slot on there ... the MB is an ASUS A8M2N-LA, commonly found in HP/Comcrap's

One major "problem" you may be experiencing is ... the onboard graphic is nVidia, so you will have those drivers already installed, the other thing is, ATI & nVidia do not like one anothers drivers.

You will need to uninstall all video drivers and revert to basics till you can get the ATI to work. Not an easy task in my book, my personal opinion of ATI is questionable.

Me, I would be swapping the ATI for a nVidia card, although that is what I would have bought in the first place.

You still, however, could meet with the same problem ... a lot of these "cheap" onboard vid MBs can be very problematic ... no matter who made them. Even Asus make a living from selling "cheap" OEMs to whoever will buy them.

Ok, I bought the card on the advice of someone on this forum on another thread, figured they would point me in the right direction. Alas. Anyway can this be sorted, Im fine if its a bit of a hassle just wanna sort it.

First up install driver cleaner pro.

Uninstall the video drives boot into bios make sure onboard vid is disabled then boot into safe mode run driver cleaner pro.

Reboot and install the latest ATI Drivers.

:)

Yawn. Ok thanks for your help. I disabled the card and removed the drivers, I downloaded the latest drivers but they wouldnt install. So I installed the ones that came on the CD the card is now working. However in order to play any games I need the latest but whenever I download them and try to install it just says severe error setup could not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system. Now I've checked and I have XP media center edition and the card is clearly an X800 series. Any ideas as to what the problem is now?
