I just installed this card into my comp. When I plug my monitor into
the vga jack on the card, my monitor goes all funky with vertical
lines about 3 inches wide, all across the screen, in 4 colors.

Im wondering what I have done wrong, or what I need to do to correct
this and get an actual screen to work with this new video card. This
is the first card Ive ever upgraded to.. so hopefully someone knows
what is going wrong and how I can fix it..

Thanks

Did you uninstall the old video card drivers first before replacing it with
the new video card?

Things to try, put the old video card back in the computer, next uninstall
any video drivers that windows detects at boot up. Go into the device
manager to uninstall any video drivers there. Windows will prompt you to
restart, do so and turn off computer completely. Replace the old to the new
video card make sure it's seated right in the slot. Remember to also
disconnect the A/C from the computer. After thats done, boot up your
computer and see if this works.

Goodluck!!

Ok.. lets say I give that a try.. how they would I get my old drivers
back if that didnt work?

Like I say, I have a stock videocard if anything in this computer as
it is.. I didnt even have to pull out a card to put this one in.. if
that helps.

You can download the "Getting Started Guide" for your card at http://ati.com

Depends on the old video card, windows WILL load generic video drivers until
you figure out the problem. Infact if you really are going use the new video
card it shouldn't make a difference. What is the old video make? Can you get
drivers for that video card or do you have an install CD?

I have the install CD for the new video card.. the ATI x1600

But I cant install the data if I cant see the screen to do so :)

When I go to 'Display' it says that I have 'Dell m770 on S3 Graphics
ProSavageDDR'

Does that help you?

I assume from what your saying the motherboard has on board graphics. You
may need to disable it in BIOS before installing the card. You'll have to
remove the card and go back to the OBG to get into BIOS.
Check with M/B mfg to see if you have the latest chipset drivers or need to
update the BIOS.

Does it require a power connection other than the slot its seated it?
Do you have a power connector from power supply connected to the
video card ?

T Shadow: I think this is also the next step.. but how do I disable
the graphics in the bios??

I have no idea how to do that.. and its driving me nuts trying to
figure it out :)

Hawkeye: No power connection is needed

I think this is what I need help with.. and I need like a step by
step way to go about the following things:

1. Uninstall my current S3 ProSavage DDR video card drivers

2. Disable the integrated adapter in the BIOS.

I *THINK* I can find the drivers I need to remove in the device
manager, under display adapaters.. but Im not sure if that is all I
have to remove or not.

So I need help with these things :)

Thanks everyone

To enter into the computers BIOS. As soon as you turn on the computer at
bootup hit either "DEL" or "F1" or "F2" to enter into the BIOS. Look for
anything with disabling the On-board VGA. take your time!

Sounds good :) But I dont want to download drivers :) I want to remove
them from my computer :)

I can only find the word VGA mentioned twice in the whole set up menu

In the CMOS, under video [EGA/VGA] it gives me options of EGA 40 EGA
80 OR MONO

And under Shadow VGA something.. where it says shadowing something
increases performance

And thats it ..

So once again Im at a loss..

What the name or model of your computer?

Also, the driver download web page is just there for you if needed for the
future.

the motherboard is a VIA model
Via makes the chipset. Mother boards can have chipset from different mfg.
Like CPUs can be AMD or Intel. If it's a prebuilt like Dell, Compaq etc. you
can get a manual from their website. More than likely you can get one for
one someone has built too but you'll have to get the make and model directly
from the motherboard. Not off of chips or anything else. Need more info to
guess what you have.
VIA has been one of the most problematic chipsets so make sure you get the
latest drivers for them.
