ATI and Microsoft enter into technology agreement

Holy ****, I knew this was possible but didn't think anything
would be agreed on so soon.

(don't worry Nintendo GameCube 2 / N5 will still use an ATI GPU)

I bet the press said the same thing about Nvidia and the Xbox1. So who will
be chosen for Xbox3?

P.S.who will be supplying the rest of the chips?

Heh,

Xbox3 will probably go to 3DLabs, if they get their Pxx series of
chips closer to the cutting edge (they were behind R300 and NV30)

Don't know who'll be suppling Xbox CPU and audio/MCP chips. I do hope
AMD wins the CPU contract. I hate Intel. Xbox1 was originally going to
use an Athlon 500 Mhz.

A 1.5+ Ghz Hammer series CPU would be sweet in an XBox2. It's Intel
compatible so it could probably run the older XBox titles. Compatibility
with the older software would be a nice tick on the ol' spec sheet. Newer
titles could run in 64-bit mode. In 64Bit mode, 64bit software has access
to extra general purpose registers (a total of 8 I think) on the hammer
series. Used right, these can yield great performance benefits. The
superior floating point unit will come in handy as well.

The audio chips is an interesting dilema. Nvidia provided the sound
capabilities of the XBox in their chipset (which they later brought to the
AMD platform in the form of their Nforce/Nforce2 chipsets). Wonder if ATi
can do this? Hmmm...
