My brother in law gave me a computer with windows 2000 on it for my kids to use for the games and the like. I bought my son madden 2002 but it would not work (not enough video memory) so I bought a video card on ebay---ati rage ultra 4x agp---I removed video card from the board and put new one in. when starting it did not recognize new board so I found it on the list but it still wont recognize it. Any ideas? whats the difference between pci and agp

You could try microsoft.public.win2000.hardware newsgroup.

Download the correct drivers from ATI's site:
http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html
It's always a good idea to uninstall the old drivers prior to installing new
ones.

AGP is a 'relatively' new standard for moving data between motherboards
and video cards/displays. It will appear as a unique slot on the
motherboard, if the board has it. I assume an AGP videocard will not
work in an ordinary PCI slot, and never looked to see whether an AGP and
a PCI slot even have the same number of pins. For more info use
Google...but if your motherboard is not AGP-equipped, you won't be able
to use that AGP card. You should also check the ATI website, to make
sure what I've said above is correct as far as that card is concerned,
and that you have the correct W2k driver for that card if you do have it
in an AGP slot.

I see you're bit by the same ATI problem as I have been. Do this, turn
off the system, remove the card, write down the serial number on the
card, the serial numbers on the chips, the go to ATI's site and
download the driver that you've found BY SERIAL NUMBER! Do NOT try and
go by the name, it's undoubtedly wrong!

BTW, it took me a year of struggling with an ATI card before I learned
this, Windows reported the card totally wrong, the name on the
packageing directed me to drivers that wouldn't work, etc.

Get the right drivers, but go only by serial numbers!
