I am building my first pc. I have a shuttle ak38N mainboard with an
agp slot. I bought an ati 8MB rage videocard made for agp. When i
went to install it the pins on the card fit the slot, but the monitor
port was facing INTO the computer. Of course it wouldnt lock and what
good is it anyway. Can someone please explain this to me? Also, what
is a cheap(i dont play games) videocard that will work in my shuttle
????PS this one was $20 at newegg.com
Thanks in advance

AGP cards have key notches, according to the voltage supported. Your old
AGP card is 3.3V, and has the notch closer to the back and the mounting
bracket. A 1.5V key notch would be closer to the front. Your motherboard
only supports 1.5V AGP cards, and the AGP slot has a plastic divider to
mate with a 1.5V key notch. You need a newer AGP card that supports 1.5V
and AGP4X.

This is a feature, not a problem. By having the monitor port face
into the computer, you create a hole which better ventilates your
computer. Also, you can route your monitor cable inside the computer
and plug it into the card ONCE and forget about it. No more worrying
about the monitor cable coming out. Finally, the darker monitor
screen image that results from this set up minimizes your eye strain.

WHAT!?!?!?!?! Are you SERIOUS!? I've never heard of such a thing. Doesn't
mean it's not accurate, but it sounds illogical to me.

Getting back to the 8 mb non-fitting AGP card:

It's not fitting because the AGP slot on the mb will only accommodate 4X
(and possibly 8X) if it's a very new board. The ATI card you have is 2X and
the slot is not backwards compatible. Sorry.
By the way, if that ATI happened to be an All in Wonder, I've got one
myself, that I'm sorry to say won't work in the newer boards. When. I wish
now that I'd bought it as a PCI version so I could still use it in newer
systems. It was extrememly versatile.
