About a year ago I purchased a ATI 9800 Pro to try in a MCE setup I was
using. After completing the PC build I started to notice some funny
things happening with the video. When scrolling over text there would
be some funny little straight line artifacts along side the cursor,
almost like they were defining the outside of the cursor box or
something. Only seemed to happen when I was cursoring over text, not
graphics. Then when I installed MCE (then 2004), but now 2005,
everything seemed to work fine until I tried to play a DVD (using NVDVD
2.something) and what I got was a playback which had a bunch of
sparkles (almost like static), and green blocks in the picture. If I
remember correctly, if I played the DVD using Windows Media Player I
did NOT have any of the strange behavior (sparkles & blocks). I was
using the lastest catalyst drivers for each version and haven't really
done any strange tweaking. I've had this card in two different systems
(motherboards), on two fresh installs of MCE and have had the same
result.
Any ideas of what the problem might be? I hate to abandon this card,
but if it's got a problem, then I need to move on.
Thanks for any help.
