Can someone tell me the difference between ATI Radeon 9600se VS ATI X300se
and how they perform in games under XP?

Both have 128 megs of ram.

Thanks for all the info. I am new at this.

I did, but you cannot compare the two cards.
The option isn't there.

Can someone provide me with some info?

I have those same ATI cards in my two Dell Dimension desktops. I'm not a
gamer, but this might help you.

The 9600 seems likely to be the strongest. It's scores are about 15%
higher than the X300 in 2D scans at PC Pitstop.

The Radeon 9600 series are medium to high end graphics adapter for a
computer that uses AGP graphics cards. They have 8x AGP speed, which
is the fastest that is generally available. They are not as high
performance as the ATI 9800 series. The 9600 series consists of 3
models insofar as I can discover - the 9600, the 9600 Pro, and the
9600 XT. I do not see a 9600SE model listed.

The X300 series is an entry level graphics adapter for a computer that
uses the new PCI Express 16 cards. PCI Express is, by design, at
least twice as fast as AGP. ATI lists 4 other series of PCI Express
cards that are higher perfomance than the X300.

Note that there is no computer that I am aware that incorporates the
ability to use both the AGP and the PCI Express 16 cards. It is an
"either or" situation. So if your computer supports PCI Express 16
then your considerations should be directed towards the X300 and other
PCI Express type video cards. AGP cards will not work in these
computers. Note that computers that use PCI Express 16 video cards
have only been generally available for less than a year, and many new
computers being sold today still have not moved to the new standard.

And if your computer supports AGP video cards then your considerations
should be directed towards the Radeon 9600 series and other 8X rated
AGP cards (provided your computer can operate AGP cards at 8X speed.
Computers more than a year or so old are likely to only support 4X AGP
and therefore a lot of the performance capabilites of an 8X AGP card
would be wasted in such a computer.

Good luck

Hi,

I would suggest you to buy Nvidia 6600GT, PCI Express or AGP8x model which
depends on you motherboard.

You pretty well summed it up Ron.
However, if Phil's motherboard only has PCI Express slot he should be aware
of a major limitation- the wattage of his power supply. I opted for the ATI
300SE because I only have a 300 watt power supply in my system. Also the
higher end PCIex cards burn much hotter- think about system cooling. In my
case my MSI MB already has an ATI 200 PCIexpress chip integrated in it, the
separate video card freed up my RAM and CPU more and I maxed up my RAM to 2
GB dual channel memory. The video streaming is awesome!
