Hi all -

I've got a Radeon 9500 and I've just noticed that the fan is NOT
running. I'm not sure just how the fan is supposed to run. The
heatsink is definitely hot to the touch and it seems to me that the
fan should be running.

I've checked the auxillary power feed to the card and it looks OK. I
definitely have power coming out TO the card.

I'm thinking either I have a broken fan, or am misunderstanding how
the card works...perhaps their is a thermostat which senses a
temperature and activates the fan only when needed.

Any comments and thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

You have a broken or seized fan. The fan is not temperature controlled.
Personally, I removed that cheezy little fan and put on an old ball-bearing
Pentium fan. The only problem w/this approach is that I can't use the on-board
fan header on the 9500 pro. The plus side is it blows a lot more air than the
cheezy little fan. I'm probably going to do the same thing w/my 9800 pro.
