Hi all,

I have an ATI Radeon 9000, running with two monitors, one at 1280x768, the
other at 1280x1024.

Every time I restart Windows XP (home), it forgets what I have configured
and sets the resolution of both monitors to 1280x768, which re-arranges my
icons. I can go into properties and set the correct resolution OK.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Ben

Hi Ben
Im Having the same problem with my new system only I have
the Radeon 9200 SE in dual mod . It started right after I
updated XP home from MS site so Im going to try and
reinstall vid driver , if that dosent work I might try
doing a sys restore or uninstalling the updates one by
one , but Im not keen on that since Im new to XP and not
100% on what will work .
Sorry Im not much help but if you updated XP at some
point befor that could be the problem .
Good luck julius

Hi:
Try going to the web site(s) for your monitors and dowload/install
the latest drivers ... well ICM files (often in an inf file) for each
of your monitors.
You will have to use the Update Driver for each in Device Manager
and choose Install from a list ... >Don't search, I will choose ...
or if not listed >have disk and browse to wherever the mfr's installer
put them. You may have to search your HDDs for *.ICM to find out where
they ended up. Often C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color xxx.ICM
Don't sweat the unsigned driver warnings. You should end up with
your monitors identified by name and not just Default or PnP monitor.
When you set the res etc for them create a Restore Point and Restart.
I have two monitors on a 9800 XT but I run them both at 1600x1200
so I don't encounter this glitch. I used to have to do similar to the
above when I used a Matrox card in Win98SE and had one monitor at
1600x1200 and the other at 1152x864.
It could be that 1280x1024 isn't included with Microsoft's
bare-bones generic list for your monitor (or for Default/PnP monitor)
but the ICM you install will tell it that that res is OK.

Happy trails,
