The overdrive GUI is a bit confusing in CCC.

The "current" VPU and MEM clocks are actually the 2D clocks. When you are
not running a 3D app your clocks will be those listed as current.

The "requested" VPU and MEM clocks at the minimum level of the slider are
your stock VPU and MEM clocks while running 3D apps. As soon as you raise
the slider above the minimum level you are overclocking the card, but only
while it is running 3D apps.

It is this concept of two sets of VPU/MEM clocks (one for 2D which is like
an idling combustion engine and one for 3D) that is different from previous
generations of ATI cards.

Cheers Tony - then the new BIOS has worked fine and runs stable through 3d
mark 05 the limiting factor will be my CPU which is an AMD A64 4000+
clawhammer running at 260*10 its not greatly stable at 9*300...

Lucky you ;)

My X1800XT is not stable at PE clocks :(

What's your 3dmark '05 score? Should be around 10k.

Glad to help.

I've owned S3, 3dfx, ATI, and NVidia. I've been most happy with my ATI
parts.

9800 Pro was great.
X1800XT is great ... just wish my card wasn't the runt of the litter :(

Tony - just checking on the BIOS update I completed....to PE

Have installed ati tool 0.25 beta for the x1000 range of cards....it shows
the default as 600/700 is that for 2D? Also what are the temp ranges (safe)
for this card ?

what is unstable after the BIOS update to PE?

Yes. So unstable that I couldn't get through 5 minutes of 3DMark05. I am one
of the very, very few that has an X1800XT that won't run the stock PE clocks
stably. Just unlucky I guess.

Tony - completely confused over clock speeds - my current setting listed in
overdrive screen:

current VPU 594 / requested 695
Current Memory clock 693 / requested 792

does this mean BIOS update has worked? Can't remember what the original
figures were before BIOS flash!

Yes, 600/700 is VPU/MEM default 2D clocks, or idle clocks as I like to call
them.

As I said before, the best way to see your default 3D clocks is to look at
the minimum values of the sliders in Overdrive CCC GUI.

Safe temp ranges? Not really sure... but I think up to 80C or more? You'll
have to google.

Yeah, it worked. Those #'s are exactly what they should be.

Tony have you tried using the ATITool 0.25 Beta 10 to increase voltage which
may give you a more stable card?

I know what its like though - Have some high end nividia cards which
everyone said were great o/c's but if I nuduged mine by 1 mhz they crashed
out !!
