Hi All,

I have an ATI Radeon 8500 AIW card. It is excellent at capturing video into
MPEG. However I have several files (large) that I have been and still am
converting to MPEG. I use various packages, VideoWave, TMPG Enc, etc. but
they all use software MPEG CODEC's. Is there anyway to take advantage of
the Encoder on the card and get the software to pipe the video through this
encoder chip?

Just a thought, I am hoping that it will be faster than the software
CODEC's...

Cheers,
Nick

I'm using PowerDVD XP and in the configuration there is a check box for
"use hardware", does any of your software have this?

There is NO MPEG encoding hardware on an ATI RADEON All-in-Wonder 8500DV
board. NONE. All existing RADEON cards with video input use a software
MPEG encoder to produce MPEG, reportedly a modified version of the Ligos
GoMotion software MPEG encoder.

Not that I am aware of.

That only helps with DECODING the MPEG-2 video, like a RealMagic Hollywood
card.

I believe the OP is looking for a way to ENCODE some files to MPEG-2 using
some sort of hardware assist from his ATI AIW card. And I further believe
that the ATI AIW cards hardware-assisted MPEG encoding only works on stuff
being captured through the card.

Hi all,

Ok, so I didnt make it that clear. I can do DVD playback fine. What I
wanted was to use the card for encoding. Sam you are spot on. I have just
re-read the specs and the hardware is for playback only. It is a software
CODEC. Oh well, guess I'll have to save up for a real MPEG-2 card...

Cheers,
Nick
