ATI doesn't have a HDTV Wonder

I never intend to buy another ATI card that has video input capabilities
anyways as it's proved to be too much of a screw around.

Time has come and gone. ATI never make HDTV Wonder a reality.
It's just a hoax they put out on their website. Anyone who's
still anticipating should look at other manufacturer products.
Digital Connection makes several.

They we're going to make the card, but instead they found the best
deals were to license the same technologies to tv makers to include
the decoders in their sets.

Because every so often it seems one's forced to update WDM drivers etc. to
keep current with the display drivers. In itself not a bad idea but at some
point one must also add more Microsoft crap to the mix.

For example, it looks like I'll need to do a complete clean re-install to
get rid of the screw around of having a "Microsoft TV/Video Connection"
entry automatically added under network properties bound to TCP/IP using ip
3.0.0.1. This happened when I installed Cat4.2 (which required WMEncoder,
3.7 requires MDAC etc. etc.) Now, even though I've removed the entry, if I
start Video-In (reverted back to 7.7 and Cat3.1) it "kills" any internet
connection (which it's done ever since installing the Cat4.2's).

It just wears thin with numerous emails between myself and ATI's tech
support being useless.

Perhaps not really ATI's fault but at the same time it's they that design
their software to use Mircosoft crap so ...

Forgot to add, I've also never forgiven ATI for not providing a VFW driver
along with a WDM driver. Meant I had to go out and buy a cheap webcam rather
than use a camcorder hooked up to composite-in on Radeon for some older
software I'd hoped to use.

That ommission has forever left me feeling a little "ripped off" as I
clearly remember them advertising at some point prior to my purchase that
one could use an "All In Wonder" with NetMeeting (which can only use VFW
driver) so I didn't even think it would be an issue.

Yet you use Windows and are happy to apply Windows Updates on the
second Tuesday of every month. You're not forced to update drivers if
they work for you.

You don't have to add anymore Microsoft stuff ot the mix.

THats called progress mate unless you'd rather still run in 16 bit
native mode under Windows 3.1 and DOS. I remember those days. I'm glad
things have moved on.

And I don't, last ATI update I did was only because of a game showing
gaphics anomalies. I should have junked the game instead :)

MS's updates I'm always cautious of as they seem to sneak in way to many
extra's, e.g. WMP9 and digital rights management is one example.

You feel ripped of by ATI for abandoning an already abandoned by Microsoft
format? VFW is ancient early 1990's crap. Just the 1 gig AVI file size limit
alone was worth them throwing the whole baby out with the bathwater!!!

Then why do they still list the product on their Web site?

I think you're thinking of some ancient history, not the HDTV Wonder board
that was announced earlier this year and that is supposed to be available
in the "spring"?

It has? Where and when did ATI announce a ship date and what was that date?
The closest I've ever seen them come is "spring", which doesn't end until
June 20.

No, they do not "make several". They sell several that are made by other
companies.
