ATI Control Center - problem when shutting down the PC...

When I try to shut down my computer, I get one of these END PROGRAM
message (which stops the shut down process until I click on it) with
the typical message about some program not responding. Looking at the
path, the program appears to be cli.exe from the ATI folder
..../ATI.ACE/cli.exe.

I also notice that cli.exe appears twice in my list of processes (one
in CAP letter, the other in regular letter). Is this normal or
possibly the cause of the annoying message?

I have tried to use the REPAIR option from the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS
panel but it does not seem to make a difference.

I know I could simply remove the ATI Control Center (and will in a
heartbeat if I can't figure this out quickly) but I'd rather keep it if
it can work the way it supposed to...

Save you're self a bunch of problems and get the control panel version
of the drivers, What I run and all is good :)

I have 2 cli.exe running also, but no problems at all.
If i enable the tray icon i got 3.
I use the ati cat5.7 drivers but the 5.8 run fine also.
Best thing to do is to completely uninstall your drivers, then check if the
ati dir is also deleted from c:\program files.
Then use a registry scanner to check for errors, like norton windoctor for
example.
After a clean install your system should run ok,but it's also possible that
you disabled some setting with msconfig,or disabled some services, and they
could stay resident in your system so when installing it keeps that and
makes the same problem again.
Check your settings in ati control center also.
On a final note, the ati control center is certainly not a must, but it works
fine for me.

I have no idea what you mean by that... Are you suggesting not to use
the ATI Control Centre and simply use the DISPLAYS settings from
Control Panel? Or to use the Control Centre that comes with the 5.8
drivers (which is what I did already)?

You can choose between the new, bloated Control Centre, or the old-fashioned
smooth and fast Control Panel (also made and distributed by ATI) which seems
to give much less problems.

You can choose between these two versions at:

Ah! that makes sense now. I didn't know the old Control centre was
still an option. I'll probably go back to it. Thanks! A.

The old control center will be not be available (not supported)beyond Cat
version 5.9.

The problem is probably with the .NET framework. Reinstall .NET1.1. I ran
into problems with the control center installing the last set of drivers. A
reinstall of 1.1 with the 1.1 service pack fixed all of my problems.
