I am using dual monitors on a dual head ATI AGP4x video card. I installed the
Nov 11 2005 release of ATI's catalyst control center with Hydravision to
manage the dual monitor setup. I recently updated to .NET v2 and run Zone
Alarm Internet Sec Suite 2006 for firewall and av.
When I log off/shut down the computer a dialog box appears as follows:
End program-.NET-BroadcastEventWindow .1.0.5...
Shutdown hangs up and I must click End Now to continue.
The catalyst control center installs an event log entry: ACEEventLog
Relevant log entries show an Event Id:0
Description:
0000000001: 2005-11-26 07:12:50:921 Unknown ACE Component Shell type
[unknown]
Error Called by: ATI.ACE.CLI.Implementation.CLI::Main
processID:02164 threadIDCLIMace
) domainNamecli.exe )
assemblyNameCLI.Implementation, Version=1.2.2128.454, Culture=neutral,
PublicKeyToken=90ba9c70f846762e)
This event appears to be related to zone alarm. I have configured
permissiions for all .NET and ATI entries as well as their components in za's
program control. It may also be related to the v2 implementation of the .NET
framework while ATI's control center uses v1.1 (I assumed v2 would be back
compatible).
If zone alarm is shut down manually before log off/shutdown the problem does
not occur. Also does not occur if hibernate is used.
I uninstalled .NET v2 and tried v1.1 but the issue remained.
The ASP.NET account is enabled. IIS is not installed (does it need to be?).
I have contacted zone alarm support re this issue. Their kb entries
involving shut down problems suggest terminating za manually before shutdown.
I would rather resolve the issue so logoff/shutdown proceeds normally. Last
resort would be to revert to ATI's Catalyst Control Panel which does not use
..NET.
As I expect to see increased usage of .NET applications I think it would be
worthwhile to resolve this problem so other users will have a more seamless
experience.
