The card you have purchased is an "AGP" video card. It is designed to snap
into a special slot, which is usually closest to the motherboard power
connector. If I remember right, this slot is usually a dark color.

If all you have are slots like the one you are trying to connect this card
to, you need a "PCI" type card. Most video cards are available either way.

You need either a PCI video card or a new computer with the updated AGP slot
which has been standard for video cards for a few years now.

Not only AGP but the newer version of AGP. There are two out (they
vary by the voltage - 1.5 and 0.8 I think. Review the specs.

I suspect it won't plug in if the slot is wrong.. but I am not 100%.

Yes - everything with a computer you buy today becomes obsolete..
everything.. my latest was trying to plug a "din" jack keyboard into a
"ps2" style.
