Hello there

I've got an 8500 DV. Is there a way to record a TV program without the
commercials?

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Pat

I use mpeg2 @ SVCD profile to capture, then use Womble Mpeg2VCR to edit
out the commericals. I can capture a one hour TV program in SVCD
format, edit the commercials, and have it ready to burn in much less
than ten minutes. It's very intuitive and easy to use, and very fast,
as it does not re-encode the mpeg. One thing to be aware of though...it
does a fantastic job on constant bitrate files from MMC, but it has been
my experience that it will corrupt variable bitrate ATI captures, making
them unusable. If I do capture VBR, I edit the commercials with Womble,
and then remultiplex it with TmpgEnc, which effectively solves the
problem.
It'll add another ten minutes to the process, but overall still a
relatively quick solution.

Good Luck,

CF

Following Bilar Crais' excellant advice, you might also consider
installing Ulead's Video Studio 6 assuming it came bundled with your
8500 DV. It did with mine.

VS-6 provides several ways to edit and eliminate segments you don't
wish to keep and by clicking and manipulating the time window, you can
extract and keep clips right down to the exact frame.
