Does anyone know why there is no information at all about the ATI
9800SE All-In-Wonder available on the web? Why does ATI deny its
existence?

It can be bought from a shop in the Netherlands (www.mycom.nl), but
apart from them there seems to be know source of information at all
for this mysterious card. What't the deal here?

I two am interested in this card. I have only ever seen this on sale
in one other website.

My understanding of the situation of the SE chips are that they are
cut down versions. In case of the 9800 gpu ATI have cut the 8 pixel
pipe in half to 4 and may have cut the memory bus down from 256 to
128. The 8 pixel pipe can be re-enabled through software modifacations
to unlock the extra four pipes, however this is not garunteed to work
with satisfactory results (graphical errors etc mean removal of
software mod) and back down to four pipes. Whether ATI went the whole
hog and cut the memory bus aswell (128vs256 bit) is unknown to me as
there is little information on it on the internet. I beleive these
cards where aimed at the OEM market and in limited areas, parts of
Europe and Asia.

If i can find out the status of the memory bus 128 or 256 then i am
very tempted to buy one. In current format the 9800se should perform
to similar levels of the 9600pro. But with modding could potentially
take it up to true 9800/9700 levels. I think this card offers much
better value for money as its effectivly at 9600pro All in wonder at
arround the £150 mark with the potential to be so much more.

There is more information on the rage3d.com forums.

This is simply my understanding of the confusing situation we are ever
so increasingly being faced with; thanks to the likes of ATI and
Nvidia amoungst others.

If anyone has definate information on this product please let us know.
I need information on the ram speed, gpu and whether the bus has been
cut down.

I'm emailing you to ask if you had found out any information on the
AIW9800se. >(Just incase you don't go back to your post !)
I have found a UK based company that stocks the card and by luck they
are just >down the road from me, I've sent them an e-mail inquiring
about the card.

I haven't found out any further information, that is, no official
publication from ATI or anything. There is a thread going on about the
9800SE AIW on gathering.tweakers.nl. Unfortunately for most people
it's in Dutch. The topic of the talk mostly concerns issues with
directx 9.0b disabling the aiw tuner.

I've ordered one from the Mycom shop btw. It should arrive next monday
or tuesday. From what I've heard, it comes with drivers burned on a
CDR and as an OEM version (no manuals or box or anything). One guy on
the above mentioned thread claims that mycom is a so-called launch
partner for ATI regarding the 9800se AIW and has aquired exclusive
rights in Europe to sell the card. I wonder how that rimes with the UK
based company stocking it?

The rest of the information I obtained is exactly like you mentioned
in your post. The card itself remains a small mystery.

Hi,

I wish you good luck with your purchase. Are you in the UK aswell, and
if so how much was postage?

Tho the idea of the tuner being disabled is slightly worrying.

Are you planing on moding the card at all to release the 8 pipes? I
would be very interested in seeing benchmarks for this card in its
current state/overclocked and modded.

I am currently running a geforce ti4200 at 300/650 so ti4600 levels; I
would like to upgrade to a better card but lack the funding of the
£300 cards(9800pro). The 9800se AIW card to me seems to offer the best
price/potential performace/features ratio of the current crop of
cards. A plain 9600pro just doesnt seem worth while upgrade, nor does
a fx5600. (But throwing in the TV tuner and potential mods it has my
full attention ;) )

It a shame their is limited information on the internet about this
product.

This is the URL of the site I found in the UK is
http://www.lowestonweb.com/Products/ProductList.asp?e=52E363C7-D0F7-4642-9DA2-0B185DE1E835

The website looks a bit "dodgy" but they are based in Worcs and I
beleive it is just another front for Evesham Technologies - a well
respected company.

Heres my evidence of this :

Let us know how you get on. ;)

so did you take the generic 9800se and use the latest catalyst drivers to
turn on all 8 pipes?

Jim

Will the drivers alone actually turn on all 8 pipes?? Is that not a
hardware issue?

Of course, the regular drivers don't turn on the other 4 pipes, but a
special hacked version does. So, the modification is done by software
alone, although it concerns a hardware issue. But then again, what
software does not ultimately drive hardware?

Btw, the softmod stuff is actually a general 9800se topic. There's
plenty enough of information to be found on it. This post was
specifically meant for the 9800se AIW, and why it isn't mentioned
anywhere and only available in a few shops.
