Hello... This may not be the best group for this question, but I'll give it
a try. I have a Windows XP Pro system with an AMD 3200+ 64-Bit CPU, 1GB
PC3200 DDR RAM and the ATI 9800 XT with 256MB VRAM. All of the monitors
mentioned below were used with the DVI connection and at 70-75Hz.
Up until a few weeks ago, I had a Dell 1702FP 17" LCD. The 1702FP was
wonderful, but I had been looking to increase my monitor size for a few
months. I came by a new AG Neovo E-19A 19" LCD monitor last month and
connected it to my system. Shortly after installing the new monitor, I
noticed that my graphics performance in games wasn't nearly as smooth as it
had been with the Dell 1702FP. I thought that it was the monitor, so I did
some research and found that the Samsung SyncMaster 191T+ was highly
recommended for both text and gaming.
I've just purchased and installed the 191T+ and, while it's absolutely
wonderful displaying text and images, my gaming quality is nowhere near what
it was with the Dell - it's doing exactly what the AG Neovo did. I've read
professional and end user reviews that went on and on about how the 191T+
didn't suffer from ghosting, and yet it's horrible. In some games, like
Jedi Academy II and Halo for example, the motion is also a bit jerky.
I don't really even play games that much, but I certainly don't want to have
spent nearly $700 for the upgrade and have an LCD that performs more poorly
than what I had. I know that CRTs are considered optimal for gaming, but my
Dell was excellent without a trace of the problems that I'm having now. So,
my questions are as follows: are there any 19" LCD monitors that are great
for gaming? Do 19" LCDs just not perform well with games as a general rule?
Did I make a bad choice in the Samsung 191T+? Are there settings that I
should adjust to correct for the ghosting/jerking? Does the ATI 9800 XT
have a hard time with games running at 1280x1024 (I wouldn't think so)?
At the end of the day, I'm willing to make whatever change is necessary; I
just want a 19-20" LCD that's great for text and images (which is what I
work with most) but also provides gameplay that's smooth when I want to
play.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
