01-PSMOD-1 I add an adjustable potentiometer, so you can raise and/or lower the +5v
and +12v power as needed. 10.00
01-PSMOD-2 I modify the the rear internal fan, so that it is getting 12v (which is
what it is designed for), instead of only 5v. 5.00

i am not affilated with this most excellent web site - i have only purchased cpu's from
Mike that were very difficult to find retail on the street.

Antec makes an adjustable model, pricey tho. Alternative is a Enermax that
has internal pots.

The Antec is a fine PSU, and that's not a major deviation. What makes you
think it's the PSU or vid card holding back your OC? CPU, memory and bios
settings are more likely culprits than the 5v rail.

Right. About every PSU on the market has plenty of power on the 5 V rail.
Most are weak on the 12 V rail though, Antec being no exception. Enermax are
the only ones I know with plenty on all rails.

No advice, but kudos on the great subject header! It "sucked" me right in.
;-)

Might want to try a Seasonic--they're not terribly expensive and the
tests that I've seen indicate that they manage +/- 2% across their
entire rated power range. Quiet too.

Really? Maybe things have changed but I had an Enermax 350w and it
caused me major grief. Went to an Antec to fix the issue. Now using
Zalman though because I wanted a quieter PSU.

I have several enermax units but I've never seen any voltage pots inside.

I do not think Enermax fit them to their units, although voltages can be changed
with a small resistor change mod. (but I've never found it necessary)
In fairness, I've always found the Enermax voltages to be pretty accurate with
little fluctuation.
On the system I'm currently using here... its fitted with
4 x 51/4" (Cd reader, Dvd reader, cd burner, DVD burner)
3 x 160gb hard-drives.
31/2" floppy
3200 barton cpu.
1 gig 3700 ddr.
Powercolor 9800 Pro.
TV card.
Paradise Raid card.
Audigy 2LS
80mm cooling the 9800 pro
4 80mm case fans
1 120mm fan in case side.

All fans controlled via Vantec speed controller to reduce noise.

This system uses a Enermax 465 430watt unit and all voltages are well within
specs. ie. 5v rail is 5.03v.

Regards

John

Same as me. Had an Enermax 365p and it was the biggest pile of junk I have
ever owned. The 5v rail was all over the place and caused me all sorts of
cold boot problems. So I went for Antec and all the problems went away.
The 5+12 combined numbers on the Enermax were terrible and even the more
powerful Enermax's weren't as strong as the Antecs. Personally, I wouldn't
touch Enermax with a barge pole.

Incidentally, I recently went for a Globalwin SAF Saphire 520w because I
wanted something silent (19dB!) and powerful. Awesome PSU, if not a bit
pricey.

Chip.
