ATI 9800 Pro Graphics Problems

When playing certain video games with the 9800 Pro (especially EverQuest)
after a short while, the video begins to "break up" and then shut off the
monitor. The only recourse is to shut down the mqachine and start back up.

The latest drivers have been installed from the ATI web site. All possible
Windows XP updates have been applied.

I thought it may have been the card but the exchanged card is exhibiting the
same behavior. Standard Windows operations do not seem to be affected (so
far).

Any suggestions? Anyone else having these problems?

Do you have the latest DirectX installed? 9.0b I believe.

I have an ATI AIW 9800 Pro and I am running the latest Windows XP Pro
(all possible updates), latest ATI Drivers, & latest DirectX.

I have experienced the same problem when watching programs recorded
with the ATI Digital Video Recorder. If I switch between recorded
programs or channels on the channel guide my Envision En-7100e
monitor's status led will go from green to amber. (Complete loss of
video) The only way to restore video is to press the reset button. I
just updated my ATI video drivers to the latest rev.
"wxp-w2k-catalyst-7-991-040224m-013831c" and have yet to see the
problem again. Since I've only been at the new driver rev. for a
couple of days I can't say if the problem has been resolved. I have
had this problem with at least the last 4 ATI driver revisions but I
can't reproduce the problem intentionally so its hard to get any tech
support for this problem.

Hope that helps.

Sounds like either the card is overheating due to lack of case ventilation,
OR you are using too small of a power supply unit and it can't provide
enough power to the video card.
