ati 9800 pro 256 flickers?

I just bought a new video card and a large lcd flat monitor. I will
mostly be using them to view large 2d files (engineering graphics).
I've found that several settings for the video card have an annoying
flicker while some are more stable.

I suppose the first thing would be to really figure out if the problem
lies with the video card or with the monitor.

The 21in Viewsonic vp211b has both analog and digital inputs. I've
only tried the digital input and will soon try the analog just to see
if there's a timing issue with the digits. I have 2 other computers I
can also test the monitor with.

Some settings cause the entire screen to wiggle. Other settings are
more stable, but have a "sparkle" problem where a hundred or so pixels
flicker to a nice bright orange color. It's pretty annoying.

I've tried the properties-settings-advanced options that disable
various hardware accelerations in the operating system for
troubleshooting and nothing helps. (win2k)

I've downloaded the latest driver from ati and have installed it. I
also downloaded the latest monitor driver and Perfect Portrait upgrade
(the latter allows the user to rotate the entire screen 90 degrees for
documents.)

All the drivers are happy in device manager.

I just built the computer. It's an asus a7n8x with 1 gig of low
latency corsair ddr ram and an amd 2500+ oc'd to 3200+. I've had it
going now for a couple of weeks with another video card and monitor
and it's been rock stable. ( I also have 2 wd 10k rpm sata drives in
raid 0, and have been pleased with the speed.) In all, the only
issues I've had with the motherboard have been with the lan
interfaces. There are 2 on the card, one from nvidia and the other by
3com and neither worked. I finally disabled them both in the bios and
added a little cheap lan card, which words perfectly.

I'm using a 300w supply. I do have a 400w supply around here I could
try I guess since I know that's what most suggestions will likely be.
I haven't been quick to blame the supply since some settings are quite
usable. The supply itself is an expensive ($125) unit from
silentpc.com which is quite good.

Has anyone else seen this before? Suggestions?

See if the BIOS has a Spread Spectrum modulation setting and if so ensure it
is on. The "wiggle" sounds like a EMF issue, not a driver or card problem.

I tried this with high hopes and it didn't change things.

I tried the analog output of the radeon card into the monitor and it's
rock solid.

I have another machine with a radeon 7500 in it that has a dvi output
and tried the monitor on it. It's rock solid, so I guess the
monitor's ok. It's been shown to work with both analog and digital
inputs.

The radeon 9800 card seems to have a problem with its dvi out for some
reason. The only things left to try are the supply and the driver.

Suggestions?

Not the drivers I guess. I deleted all the drivers, rebooted to the
windoze default drivers, then reloaded. Same thing.

I'm going to go with the analog interface for now. I'll play with the
supply later.

I have Athlon 2800+ (ASUS A7N8X-X) and Ati 9800 Pro 128.
This is Solution for DVI-Out Problem:

1) Install new Catalyst 3.8 Drivers
2) Display Properties\Settings\Extended\Options

(V) Reduce DVI frequency on high-resolution displays.

And my TFT flicker not more.
