ok - i'm not very computer savvy --- & i'm not having any serious issues with
video card right now. i just installed tiger woods pha '06 & everything is
working pretty well. - i've been reading around that you should update your
drivers BUT - i'm really kinda scared about doing this.
I can't find the "catalyst" drivers anywhere on my system! now, a couple of
monthes ago my system crashed - had pc paramedics come to fix it & he had to
reinstall everything. --- is it possible that he didn't reinstall the
"catalyst softwear suite" ???
would the card work ok without it??? --- i'm worried that if i install it -
it could mess everything up. --- any advice out there???

thanks
ernie

Catalyst drivers are deliver in multiple versions. I know that you can get
the "drivers" only package and the "full" suite. It seems that your
paramedic only got you the drivers package. Head over to www.ati.com and
get the latest driver suite. But, please read the directiiosn/suggestion on
how to "update" you drivers (usually you need to un-install the older
driver/suite package).

For more online help, look on forums @ www.guru3d.com.

that's what's confusing me --- when i go to "add\remove programs" - i see
nothing there that says "catalyst" or "ati" --- just "intel (r) pro" -
certainly don't want to remove the wrong program. --- does anyone know if
it's dangerous to just download "catalyst 5.9" - without uninstalling (since
i see nothing there???).

is it possible that the ati card is working without the "catalyst" drivers???

Go to the ATI web site and you will find that ATI posts many things:
Catalyst 5.9; and drivers, and control panel, etc. It is up to you to know
what is on your system and what you need to download. If Catalyst is not in
Add/Remove then look for ATI drivers and/or ATI control panel.

The ATI card could be working with generic drivers provided by Microsoft as
part of XP - they are not usually the latest or the best drivers to be on
your system.

Open your device manager by right clicking 'My Computer' and clicking
'Properties' on the submenu.
In 'System Properties' choose 'Hardware' and click on 'Device Manager'.
Expand (click the plus sign) 'Display Adapters'.
Right Click your card and choose 'Properties'.
Click 'Driver tab. Click 'Driver Details' to see the manufacturer and
version of the files installed.

Hope this will help in determining which software is used to run your
graphics card
