Hello,

This is probably a noob question, but thought I'd ask. I recently bought an
ATI 9600 Pro (not an all in wonder), but i do see that there is an S Video
output on the card. I would love to be able to xfer my vhs home movies to
my computer.

Will this allow me to do that? Does sound xfer over S Video too? Is there
software that you would recommend to xfer the movies?

If I'm not mistaken, I believe you require a capture card in order to
transfer video into your computer. The 9600 pro only has a video
out(S-Video) which you can display to a TV. You would also require an audio
cable for sound since the S-Video output puts out video only. So basically,
the answer to your first question is no however it's simple enough to add
an inexpensive capture card($100.?)

another option is an ATI TV Wonder (VE). The VE is the cheaper of the two
models. It is exactly what you are looking for for some simple VHS video
recording. Plus, it hooks up to cable as well and can allow you to watch TV
on your pc. I see the price go from anywhere of 30 to 70 dollars. The
other model (non VE) will do all the same thing as the VE, but has a few
better features. It can record in Stereo as opposed to Mono and has a built
in FM Stereo ability as well. The TV part they both have comes with a cool
piece of software to allow you to get the tv guide and use it to record tv
shows much like a VCR or Tivo.

Ive used my VE model for recording my old VHS Soprano recordings o my PC. I
sold mine to my friend. I want it back!
