This is a function of your motherboard, you need to check w/ your mobo
vendor. It may require a BIOS update as well.

Very likely, yes. Can you provided the brand name and model number of your
motherboard as well as other hardware specs ?

Is the system capable of taking a faster processor? Maybe. Can you
install a faster processor? No, it's against the law.

Is there a simple tool that will tell me the make and model of mt motherboard?

Yeah, everyone knows that. Most people just ignore it, though.

What law? What in the hell are you talking about?

I've got a K7S5A I built with an Athlon XP 1600+ processor that I
could easily swap for a faster processor. What is the hell is
"illegal" about this?

A screwdriver and a flashlight. It is usually printed on the circuit
board for the motherboard.

yep my brothers serving 5 to 10 for swapping processors...... was
worse for him cause he swapped an Intel for an AMD. ;^0

Thanks, that's really helpful for a lot of other things -- looks like
I can print it out as a back-up of all my serial numbers as well.

Anyway, the motherboard area was a bit cryptic, does this mean
anything to you (and by the way, is there anything else I can do to
speed things up other than a CPU upgrade?):

Board: M1647/M1535D -- is it an Ali?
Bus Clock: 133 megahertz
