Athlon XP 1800+ Overspeed Problem in XP

At present, I'm running my version of XP Pro with the
above processor only set to the FSB of 100Mhz, hence XP
reports it's only a 1150Mhz processor. If I then change
the FSB speed to 133Mhz, the POST screen rightly reports
it as an 1800+ processor but then reboots continuously
just as the Welcome screen loads up in XP. However, it
will load ok in Safe Mode. Is this something to do with
my BIOS settings or a problem with XP?

Thanks

I do not think you BIOS is the problem. The problem is with XP's activation
process. It was activated with the processor set for 1150MHZ and the FSB at
100MHZ. Switching to 133MHZ may have caused XP to think it is a duplicate
install. Do a repair re-install.

No, that's not the problem at all. If activation was the
problem, he would get a specific message that he needed
to activate. You'll always know when activation is the
problem.

First, make sure the machine isn't overheating.
If you're sure it's not, boot to safe mode, open Control
Panel->System. Click the Advanced tab, click Settings
under 'startup and recovery'
Uncheck the box that says 'automatically restart'.
Hit OK out of those screens, and reboot to normal mode.
You should get a bluescreen now instead of a reboot.
What does the bluescreen say?
